RAFT Emulsion Polymerization for (Multi)block Copolymer Synthesis: Overcoming the Constraints of Monomer Order

نویسندگان

چکیده

Synthesis of (multi)block copolymers using reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization generally suffers from the limitation that order blocks must be considered. Herein, syntheses block by RAFT trithiocarbonate species are conducted as solution, miniemulsion, and emulsion polymerizations to demonstrate issue monomer for styrene butyl methacrylate can largely overcome in under carefully chosen conditions. The presence droplets polymerization—in addition polymer particles constitute locus polymerization—leads a reduction ratio end groups at polymerization. Consequently, fragmentation adduct radical “backward” (“wrong”) direction is associated with fewer additions, thus minimizing impact this undesired kinetic event. It demonstrated exploited prepare an alternating pentablock copolymer composed methacrylates (with 10 mol % styrene) without consideration order, thereby significantly broadening scope multiblock synthesis.

Sequence-controlled methacrylic multiblock copolymers via sulfur-free RAFT emulsion polymerization.

Translating the precise monomer sequence control achieved in nature over macromolecular structure (for example, DNA) to whole synthetic systems has been limited due to the lack of efficient synthetic methodologies. So far, chemists have only been able to synthesize monomer sequence-controlled macromolecules by means of complex, time-consuming and iterative chemical strategies such as solid-stat...

Synthesis of well-defined epoxy-functional spherical nanoparticles by RAFT aqueous emulsion polymerization†

The environmentally-friendly synthesis of epoxy-functional spherical nanoparticles has been achieved using polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) in aqueous solution. Firstly, a non-ionic hydrophilic stabilizer block, poly(glycerol monomethacrylate) (PGMA), was prepared by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) solution polymerization in ethanol. This water-soluble precurs...

Polymerization-Induced Self-Assembly of Block Copolymer Nano-objects via RAFT Aqueous Dispersion Polymerization

In this Perspective, we discuss the recent development of polymerization-induced self-assembly mediated by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) aqueous dispersion polymerization. This approach has quickly become a powerful and versatile technique for the synthesis of a wide range of bespoke organic diblock copolymer nano-objects of controllable size, morphology, and surface f...

A New Approach for Monte Carlo Simulation of RAFT Polymerization

In this work, based on experimental observations and exact theoretical predictions, the kinetic scheme of RAFT polymerization is extended to a wider range of reactions such as irreversible intermediate radical terminations and reversible transfer reactions. The reactions which have been labeled as kinetic scheme are the more probable existing reactions as the theoretical point of view. The ...
